Gemstone Jewelry Care Guide

Caring for Your One Eve Night Gemstone Jewelry

Our handmade gemstone pieces are crafted with care and meant to be treasured. With the right attention, your jewelry will stay beautiful for years to come. Please read the guidelines below before wearing or cleaning your pieces.

Water & Moisture

Our handmade gemstone jewelry is not waterproof. Please remove your pieces before:

  • Swimming in pools, oceans, lakes, or hot tubs
  • Showering or bathing
  • Washing dishes or using household cleaners
  • Exercising or any activity that causes heavy sweating

Prolonged exposure to water, chlorine, and saltwater can damage natural gemstones, dull finishes, and weaken settings or elastic cords.

Note: If you purchased from our verified waterproof line, those pieces are specifically designed and tested for water resistance — check the product description to confirm.

Cleaning

For light cleaning, follow these steps:

  1. Dampen a soft, lint-free cloth with plain water.
  2. Gently wipe the surface of the jewelry.
  3. Pat dry immediately with a clean, dry cloth.
  4. Allow to air dry completely before storing.

Avoid: ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, chemical jewelry dips, bleach, or abrasive cloths — these can crack, fade, or cloud many natural stones.

Stone-Specific Cautions

Different gemstones have different sensitivities. Here are a few general guidelines:

  • Soft or porous stones (e.g., turquoise, malachite, moonstone, opal, pearl): Very sensitive to water, oils, and chemicals. Clean with a barely damp cloth only.
  • Dyed or treated stones: Avoid soaking, as water can cause color loss or surface changes.
  • Quartz, amethyst, citrine: More durable, but still avoid prolonged sun exposure, which can fade color over time.
  • Lapis lazuli, malachite: Avoid all acids and harsh chemicals; surface can be damaged easily.
  • Pyrite & hematite: Can rust or oxidize when exposed to moisture — keep dry.

When in doubt, treat your gemstone jewelry as water-sensitive and handle with care.

Storage

  • Store pieces individually in a soft pouch or lined jewelry box to prevent scratching.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity.
  • Avoid storing in the bathroom, where steam and moisture are common.
  • Do not pile pieces together — gemstones and metals can scratch one another.

Everyday Wear Tips

  • Last on, first off: Put your jewelry on after applying makeup, lotion, perfume, or hairspray. Remove it before undressing.
  • Remove jewelry before exercise, yard work, or any high-contact activity.
  • Avoid contact with household chemicals, hand sanitizer, and sunscreen.
